Two more “animal-themed” spaces open to public in Changning

Two more “animal-themed” public areas for entertainment and leisure under the Middle Ring Overpass near the Suzhou Creek in Changning District were opened on Wednesday, the district said.

The area with the cheetah, zebra and flamingo themes under the overpass is about 35,000 square meters in total. One of the newly opened spaces, with the theme of zebra, has a 2,900-square-meter football field, running track, a landscape park and a public parking lot with 40 parking spaces.

A man surnamed Zhang, who is a long-distance running lover, said he felt good when he was running in this space and it was convenient because it was near his home.

The other new space is yellow cheetah-themed. It contains a sports service center, a basketball court, a football field and a landscape park.

The football field and the basketball court in the two spaces will be open to the public on July 30.

The space, themed as pink flamingo, with a basketball court, a gym and a viewing platform, has been launched at the beginning of this year. According to official statistics, the visits of the basketball court in this space have exceeded 20,000 and around 115 people visit the place every day on average.

“Flamingo means freedom, youth and enthusiasm; zebra shows elegance, leisure and exquisite taste; and cheetah symbolizes sport, speed and passion,” said Pan Jing, one of the designers.

Xi Jiasen, deputy director of the transportation center of Changning, said the flamingo- and zebra-themed spaces have been connected to the 11.2-kilometer fitness trail along the Suzhou Creek and the cheetah-themed space has been linked up to the 1.7-kilometer fitness trail along the Xinjing Port in  the neighboring Minhang District.
